    Description

    I present you with this
Extremely Rare French Art Nouveau 1900 18K Gold Strength Through Unity Solidarity Bracelet Bangle !
Fully hallmarked with eagles head and makers mark on hinge, resembles a GC with a sword pointed upwards between letters in the traditional French diamond field mark. Weighs approximately 11.2 grams, it is hollow-cast, an extremely difficult technique specially to have a bangle that opens and closes keeping everything in near perfect alignment, talk about perfect engineering, definitely crafted by a master art goldsmith ! Approximately 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in outer height, and approximately 6.64 cm (2  9.5/16 inches) in outer width. Approximately 5.5 cm (2  2.5/16 inches) in inner height, and approximately 5.7 cm (2  4/16 inches) in inner width. The bangle is approximately 5 mm (3/16 of an inch) thick at the criss cross ribbons section. When I say extremely rare I mean I have never encountered another ! I have seen countless silverware and silver jewels with this theme which was very popular in France as long back as Napoleon himself, l'union fait la force, strength through unity, some attribute this saying to after Napoleon but that is not so, it is ancient, at least as ancient as ancient Rome over two thousand years ago. The
    Fasces
which means bundle, a bound bundle of wooden roods which sometimes included a protruding axe tied together with a ribbon, symbolized the Roman Republic aka ancient Roman empire, however the Fasces is believed to go back as far as the Etruscans, but made famous by the ancient Romans who adopted all the ideas of the empires that proceeded them. The Fasces was also used by the French First Republic (1791-1804), then came Napoleons First Empire though he used a different symbol, the ideas of unity creates strength was definitely exploited by Napoleon as well, which allowed him to continue his insane march to Moscow. The Fasces was reused by the Italians just prior to the second world war since they wanted to re-establish the Roman empire. One for all and all for one which went hand in hand with the rise of all the socialist movements in Europe during the industrial revolution. In my store I have French silver goblets with the same motif, feel free to check them out !
But this bracelet and the romantic French created silverware and jewelry with this idea mostly to symbolize loyalty to family and to love ones, strength through unity between husband and wife as well as family, now how beautiful is that ?!
Because the bracelet opens, it fits my wrists perfectly with a little space, but I for a male have small wrists. The press as the photos illustrate has matching lines with the rest of the bracelet, continues flow, very nice.
This bangle theme is as French as it gets since the French have always been at the forefront in the struggle for socialist values such as strength in unity. One must remember that the French were at the forefront of the Enlightenment which is progressive thinking in a non-hypocritical way, since we see this word terribly misused today by those in power.
One word for this charming bracelet, cute ! Feel free to check out my other
