Description
This fabulous antique Victorian c1890 bangle / bracelet is set with a total of eighty seven (87) natural rose cut Bohemian garnets (or "pyrope" gemstones; 68 on the shoulders and around the band, and nineteen making up the focal"rosette"). The 68 garnets encircling the bangle and on shoulders measure approx. 2.5mm diameter each (approx 0.1CT each). In the rosette, there are seven 5mm diameter stones (approx. 0.4CT each), ten 1.3mm stones (approx. 0.02CT each) and two pear shaped stones measuring 7.5mm (L) x 3.7mm (W) (approx. 0.4CT each). The total estimated carat weight of all garnets in the bangle is therefore approx. 10.6CTW. The garnets in the rosette are bezel set, and the garnets in shoulders and band are prong set within the channel of the band. The garnets have been positively verified as genuine using a presidium gem tester (tests "pyrope"). They are natural stones, a rich wine red in color. There are no stones missing. The workmanship is magnificent - Bohemian garnet craftsmanship at it's zenith. The metal is gilded silver ("vermeil - a gold wash over silver base). The lovely garnets on this bangle fully encircle the wrist, making it equally beautiful from all angles. The inside is soft and smooth and very comfortable on the wrist. The bangle weighs 13.7 grams. The interior dimensions are: 60.6mm (L) x 51.5mm (W). It is 3.8 mm wide and 2.8mm deep / thick on the band and 18mm (W) x 6.7mm (D) on the face. The clasp is fully functioning, i.e., it opens easily and closes securely, and the safety chain is in tact. The silver is unmarked. Bohemian garnets have excellent clarity and purity. Traditional garnet jewelry from the Czech Republic (centered in Prague and Turnov) brings to mind the inside of a pomegranate fruit, ripe with glistening red seed pods. This is because the gems have a similar shape and were traditionally set closely together with very little metal showing. Bohemian garnet jewelry was extremely popular during the late nineteenth century, and has experienced a revival in the 21st century. This piece is an authentic antique item, circa 1890, in excellent condition. Please see photos for more details.Your purchase will be shipped in a tracked USPS Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box.
