    Description

This fabulous antique Victorian c1890 bangle / bracelet is set with a total of seventy two natural rose cut Bohemian garnets (or "pyrope" gemstones), each measuring approximately 4.5mm in diameter x 2.8mm (depth). The total estimated carat weight of each stone is 0.6CT, therefore approximately 43.2CTW in the bangle. The garnets have been positively verified as genuine using a presidium gem tester (tests "pyrope"). They are natural stones, a rich wine red in color. The garnets are accented with thirty four natural pearls, measuring approx. 1.3mm diameter (round). The bangle is missing three pearls. This is unfortunate, but also relatively minor, as does not detract from the overall beauty or integrity of this piece. The workmanship is magnificent - Bohemian garnet craftsmanship at it's zenith. The metal tests as very low karat (8-ish) gold, which is often referred to as 'garnet gold'. It was often used in Bohemian garnet jewelry and has a rosy hue. The lovely garnets on this bangle fully encircle the wrist, making it equally beautiful from all angles. The inside is soft and smooth and very comfortable on the wrist. The bangle weighs 25.4 grams. The interior dimensions are: 54.5mm (L) x 46.5mm (W). It is 9.8 mm wide and 5.1mm deep / thick. The clasp is fully functioning, i.e., it opens easily and closes securely. The gold is unmarked but has been acid tested to verify content. Bohemian garnets have excellent clarity and purity. Traditional garnet jewelry from the Czech Republic (centered in Prague and Turnov) brings to mind the inside of a pomegranate fruit, ripe with glistening red seed pods. This is because the gems have a similar shape and were traditionally set closely together with very little metal showing. Bohemian garnet jewelry was extremely popular during the late nineteenth century, and has experienced a revival in the 21st century. This piece is an authentic antique item, circa 1890, in excellent condition, but missing three 1.3mm pearls. Please see photos for more details.
