1871 Straits Settlements 10 cents. First year of issue of this type and used as a type until 1901. The piece is approx. 18 mm diameter, and made from .800 fine silver. The obverse shows a young Queen Victoria, facing left. The legend read "VICTORIA QUEEN". The reverse shows a large "10" inside a beaded circle in the center, with the legend around the border showing "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS TEN CENTS 1871". Both sides are nice original, varying shades of aged silver but mostly all silver in color with some light toning. The obverse shows just a tiny trace of luster around the protected areas of some of the lettering. The reverse shows a lot of luster still visible across the surfaces. Nice grade specimen with good detail in the hair and the crown of Victoria.
